There are several notables for the 2014 Ram 2500. Taking cues from the 1500, standard five-link coil rear suspension has been added to the 2500 to deliver best-in-class ride. Compared to a leaf spring system, this rear suspension will provide better articulation over obstacles. The robust coil springs handle up to 17,940 pounds for towing. An optional rear air suspension system is available, where an air bag replaces the coil spring, much like the Ram 1500. Load capacity is not sacrificed, and in fact, ride and handling get even better. The air suspension is also capable of load-leveling, where the load on the rear suspension from a trailer or payload is automatically detected and accounted for. The 3500, while still featuring the rear Hotchkiss leaf spring system, will now offer a supplemental air suspension system on single and dual rear wheel applications. With the addition of air bags, the leaf springs were be softened, allowing for more unladed suspension movement. The front of the 2500 will be equipped with an advanced three-link suspension to ensure roll stillness, reducing body roll (the amount the truck’s body tips side-to-side). Gooseneck/fifth wheel (center-positioned ball in the bed) capability now characterizes the 2500. The 2014 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty starts at $29,600, plus a $1,095 destination charge.
