Ram 1500 Rumble Bee Concept
Ram Celebrates Rumble Bee 10th Anniversary With Concept
Earlier this week, Ram teased us with a front-end rendering of a concept Ram truck to be introduced at the Woodward Dream Cruise, along with an interior picture depicting an amber-encased bee in an 8-speed rotary shifter knob. Below the shifter knob resided two buttons labeled “Rumble,” symbolizing exhaust cutouts. The few hints we received definitely pointed to some sort of Rumble Bee, which seemed fitting given it would be 10 years since the introduction of the Rumble Bee Ram in 2004. Thirty-seven hundred Rumble Bees were made in 2004, and a “second swarm” of 5000 trucks followed in 2005. The Rumble Bee finds its inspiration from the Dodge Super Bee muscle cars of the late 60’s.
The suspense is now over with the reveal of the Ram 1500 Rumble Bee Concept at the Woodward Dream Cruise. As we could have expected, the concept is covered in black and yellow and is dripping with street style. Overall, it’s totally cool, except – and let’s just get this out of the way – we were dreaming it would be powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI instead of the 5.7-liter HEMI, especially because this is a concept truck. Moving on. The 5.7-L HEMI puts out 395 horsepower and 407 lb.-ft. of torque and is connected to a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Torque is transferred through 4.10 gears. Other performance goodies include a Mopar cold-air intake system and a Mopar cat-back dual-exhaust system.
Starting as a 2013 Ram 1500 R/T, the Rumble Bee takes on a life of its own through both bold and subtle exterior and interior ques. Catching the eye first is the “Drone Yellow” pearlescent-overtone matte finish paint and the accenting gloss black of the grille, hood vents, badging, fuel door, dual exhaust tailpipes and stripe that glides front to rear before fading into a honeycomb graphic pattern that goes up and over the Mopar tonneau cover. The bee at the rear of the Rumble Bee stripe has been updated and nicknamed “speed bee.” Simple five spoke gloss black 24-inch Vellano VRH wheels replace the factory 22-inch shoes. Handling performance is enhanced through a 2-inch King Suspension drop and reservoir shocks at each corner. The interior features black and Drone Yellow leather sport mesh seats with two-tone yellow and light grey stitching. A milled aluminum “10th Anniversary” commemorative badge, unique honeycomb patterning on the door trim and dash, backlit epoxy resin-encased bee in the shifter knob, and “Rumble Bee” stitching and Ram logos remind you that this isn’t an ordinary R/T – this is a Rumble Bee.
We’d love to get our hands on this Ram concept.
