Hey guys,

I have a 1998 Chevy Tahoe with the 350ci Vortec that isn't doing too well. I was curious if you thought I could swap it over to an LS myself or if I should just rebuild the engine that is in it. I would rather do the work myself, as I have a moderate amount of technical knowledge. Thanks for your help.

The ever popular LS swap is something that can be accomplished just about anywhere with the right knowledge and tools. You can make a ton of power with the LS, but rebuilding your Vortec is also a viable option. It all comes down to your ability and checkbook. If you are willing to put the time and effort into it, you can get a junkyard LS and build it the way you want it or buy a crate LS and drop it in the Tahoe. Whatever you do, we agree that doing it yourself is the way to go so you know what all goes into it.
Hey there Maxwell,

Once again it's great reading your column in Truckin magazine. I was just curious about the picture you have there in Vol. 39, No 5, page. 128 of the black rig towing the trailer. It's a silly question I guess to some, but what is the truck? Is it an F-650 with mods or something else? Whatever it is, it's a damn good-looking outfit and I would like to find out more about it.

Cheers. Look forward to hearing from you.

You are exactly correct. The truck is a Ford F-650 that was built by a shop in Detroit, Michigan, called MobSteel. We featured it in Issue 7 of 2012. You can check out the feature here: truckinweb.com/features/1207tr_hollow_point_2008_ford_f650/
