AEV Debuts Ram Concept Truck at SEMA Show 2013
New Ram Parts From AEV to clear 40 Inch Tires
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last decade and a half, you’re probably well aware of the awesome aftermarket parts that American Expedition Vehicles makes for Jeeps. From their Brute conversion kit to highline fenders for the new JK Wrangler, AEV has everything you could think of to make a Wrangler perform in the dirt. What you might not now is that they’ve recently taken the plunge into the full size truck market by offering an assortment of new parts for the new Ram trucks.
AEV recognized how popular the Wrangler bolt on market has been and decided it would address the full size truck void by offering parts that would increase a full size truck’s ability off road. AEV decided to start with a 2010 and up Ram truck body style for this new endeavor. What they came up with was a great looking truck with high ground clearance as well as a low center of gravity and superior front end protection.
AEV started off by designing the industry’s only stamped steel, winch compatible front bumper for the Ram trucks. The bumper is made out of 3/16-inch thick steel plate but is stamped to the contours similar to a factory bumper which really makes it look like it was done from the factory. The winch mount area features a 1/4-inch steel mount that accommodates up to a 16,500-pound winch. The bumper also features a set of heavy duty shackle mounts and has provisions for 6.5-inch integrated off-road lights. The bumper is compatible with all 2010 and up Ram 1500 -5500 trucks.
AEV also designed a 3-inch suspension lift system for Ram trucks that raises the truck 3 inches up front and 2 inches in the rear to give it the perfect level stance while allowing it to clear 40-inch tires. AEV’s suspension kit retains the use of the original coil springs to maintain compatibility as well as stability on the road. The suspension geometry is also improved for better handling and increased roll center. The shocks are also custom tuned to improve ride quality while a high steer kit is also employed to correct the steering geometry resulting in more precise steering inputs.
Since bigger tires are usually number one on the list of mods truck enthusiasts make, AEV built their truck with a set of their High Clearance Fender Flares to allow room for 40-inch tall tires when using their 3-inch lift system. The fender flares tie nicely into the AEV Premium stamped steel winch bumper for a better overall finish. AEV used their own 17x10-inch A-356 cast aluminum wheel that features a cast-in hub cover as well as a recessed valve stem. The wheels aren’t meant to just look good though, AEV designed them specifically for the Ram trucks and made sure they had a load rating of 3,650 pounds so it could be used on double duty off-road/tow rigs.
We’re glad AEV has decided to venture into the full size truck market and can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
