Airstream Interstate to be Unveiled at LA Auto Show
Refreshed Design Reflects Marketplace Demand
What do you get when you blend the iconic styling of Airstream with the features of a Mercedes-Benz? You get a Class B touring coach that boasts of multiple “Best in Class” awards and luxury enhancements. Airstream will announce their new luxury touring coach – the Interstate and Interstate EXT – during the Los Angeles Auto Show Press Days later this week. What we do know is that this new Interstate will feature aggressive styling with an enhanced hood, fenders, radiator grill, bumpers and Xenon headlights. Safety enhancements will include parking sensors and lane keeping and collision prevention assist systems. A 22” Samsung TV with a Blu-Ray Player will replace the 19” TV for the ultimate home-away-from-home experience. An advanced in-dash Kenwood Multimedia System and premium plank style vinyl flooring are but two examples of the new Interstate’s features. It will be available for $146,300-$149,006.
The Interstate and slightly longer Interstate EXT are based off of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Series and are powered by a 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel putting out 188hp and 325 lb.-ft. of torque to achieve an estimated 18 highway MPG. Towing ranges from 5,000-6,400 pounds. Multiple interior and exterior colors allow for a full expression of taste, as do multiple floorplans. Six safety airbags and belted seating for up to 9 adults make the Interstate a safe vehicle for cross country exploration.
The Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) reported that the Airstream Interstate was the number one selling Class B motorhome in the United States, with a January to August 2013 touring coach market share growth of almost 30 percent. The high demand for this luxury, sophisticated Class B is expected to continue.
