2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Wins Four Wheeler of the Year

Range Rover Sport Wins Four Wheeler Magazine’s Four Wheeler of the Year Competition

Four Wheeler announced that the 2014 winner of its annual Four Wheeler of the Year competition is the 2014 Range Rover Sport. Four Wheeler magazine has given out this award since 1974, and the event is one of the toughest challenges out there. This is the third time a Land Rover has earned the title of Four Wheeler of the Year.
This year, there was tough competition from the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, the Toyota 4Runner Trail Premium, and the Dodge Durango Limited. The vehicles were evaluated in five categories:
· Trail performance
· Mechanical and empirical data
· On-road performance
· Interior
· Exterior

The evaluations covered five days and 1000 miles, allowing all eight judges to spend plenty of time with all the vehicles. The judges drove the vehicles on a wide variety of terrain, on carefully planned drive routes throughout Southern California.
"Our testers appreciated the 510 hp, nearly 12 inches of ground clearance, 10-11 inches of wheel travel at each corner, and a 0-60 time of 5 seconds flat," said John Cappa, editor-in-chief of Four Wheeler . "Add a traction control system that allows the driver to make use of these impressive specifications on- and off-road, along with a plush interior with all the amenities, and you have our 2014 Four Wheeler of the Year, the Range Rover Sport."
"It is a great achievement for the very luxurious and performance-oriented Range Rover Sport to be named Four Wheeler of the Year by the country's oldest four-wheel drive enthusiast publication," said Kim McCullough, brand vice president, Land Rover North America. "To win this extreme off-road competition with the all-new Range Rover Sport highlights the work our engineers and designers have done to enhance our already-leading breadth of capability."
To qualify, a vehicle must be all new or substantially revised from the previous model year, must go on sale before February 15, 2014, with at least 1500 units must be produced for sale in the continental U.S. In addition, the vehicle must have a transfer case with dedicated low-range; AWD vehicles aren't allowed.
