2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Gets Improved MPG, Features
Equipment Upgrades Keep Mitsu's Small Crossover Fresh
People's perception of SUVs have come a long way in the last 20 years, going from a perception of big, lumbering, gas-swilling beasts to cheerful, easy-to-drive compact crossovers which now comprise the majority of SUV sales in the U.S. and around the world. So it's no surprise that Mitsubishi's best-selling model in the U.S. is the Outlander Sport. The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport receives some incremental upgrades for the new model year to help keep it popular with customers.
The 2.0L 148-hp I-4 engine carries over but with some fine-tuning to improve fuel economy. Front-drive models get a 1 mpg increase in both city and highway fuel economy to bring the figures to 25/32. Highway fuel economy improves by 1 mpg on AWD models for a 24/30 rating. The Outlander Sport remains one of the few SUVs still available with a manual transmission, with a five-speed standard on front-drive ES models, rated at 24 city and 30 highway. In our experience, manual models are exceedingly rare, so happy hunting.
All 2015 Outlander Sport models come standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated exterior mirrors, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The SE model adds HID lights, a 6.1-inch touchscreen display audio system, HD Radio, satellite-radio capability with a 3-month trial subscription, push-button start, rearview camera, and heated front seats, among other features.
A variety of other option packages add other features such as a 7-inch touchscreen navigation system, LED interior-accent lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Pricing and availability will be released at a later date.
