Movie Buffs Build Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler YJ Fleet
Movie Enthusiasts Track Down Fellow Fans, Start Meetups
Automotive enthusiasm takes all different sorts of forms, from classic American musclecars, high-dollar European exotics, lowered imports, diesel trucks, or 4x4s going on off-road adventures. Of course, within each of these groups there are sub-groups that have even more specialized interests. Meet the Jurassic Park Motorpool. The group is comprised of Jeep Wrangler YJ owners that have had them painted and modified to look like the Wranglers from Jurassic Park.
"Jeeps are probably the best entry-level movie car replicas to make," said Motorpool member Emmanuel Chen. Fellow member Ari Bayzid echoed the same sentiment, saying, "Jeeps are cheap," citing the affordability and availability of 1987-1995 Wrangler YJ models. For those of the belief (or experience) that love of women is temporary, but the love of cars is forever, member Alan Douglas had the dream to build a Jurassic YJ going back to the early ’90s when he first saw the movie but was dissuaded by his then girlfriend that thought it was "stupid." No longer encumbered by his insignificant other, Douglas was encouraged by fellow members of the group to finally build his Jurassic Wrangler YJ.
But don't think these vehicles are trailer queens that are primped and coddled, only to be brought out on perfect sunny days. Bayzid says of the Jeep ethos, "Other people wax their car, I mud mine."
The video is a long (by YouTube standards) seven minutes, but well worth the watch. If you have a Jurassic-painted Wrangler YJ, or want to have one, check out the group's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/jurassicparkmotorpool.
