Official: Hi-Po 2015 Range Rover Sport Dubbed SVR
Hot SUV to Storm Goodwood Hill in Public Debut
A few days ago, we showed a teaser video of a new high-performance variant of the Range Rover Sport. At the time, we assumed it would be called the Range Rover Sport RS. We have now been officially corrected by a release from Land Rover, which has given the ultra-high-performance variant the SVR moniker, which, according to the release, will adorn every future high-performance Jaguar and Land Rover model coming from Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations. The 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR will get its first official public debut this Friday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the supercharged SUV will tackle the famous Goodwood Hill.
Concurrent with the release giving the official name of the new model, Land Rover also posted a video on its YouTube channel with JLR Nürburgring Test Center Manager Phil Talboys talking about the rigorous performance testing the SVR underwent, giving a play-by-play of the vehicle's dynamics, while flogging the SUV around the 'Ring. The SVR shares its 550hp supercharged 5.0L V-8 with the Jaguar F-Type R, and its installation is just as mellifluous and aggressive here, at least from the outside. You can even hear a bit of supercharger whine in the audio overlay.
A specific on-sale date for the Range Rover Sport SVR was not given, but the release says development is "ongoing" and that its camouflaged Goodwood reveal is a "break" from that demanding program.
