Toyota Announces Follow-Up Recall on Airbags in 2002-2004 Models

Tundra, Sequoia Among Models Affected

Edward A. SanchezJun 12, 2014
With the ongoing investigation into the General Motors ignition switch recalls, auto manufacturers are taking a more cautious and proactive stance toward vehicle safety than ever before. This latest example involving Toyota is a secondary recall of vehicles to replace improperly manufactured initial replacement parts. This current recall is a follow up to an April 2013 recall covering 766,300 Toyota and Lexus vehicles for a faulty airbag inflator in some 2002-2004 cars, trucks, and SUVs.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the serial number information given by the component vendor was incomplete and may not have included all of the affected airbag inflators. Among the models affected are the 2003-2004 Toyota Tundra fullsize pickup and the 2002-2004 Toyota Sequoia SUV. Other models affected including the Toyota Corolla, Matrix, and Lexus SC430 coupe. Affected owners will receive a notification letter by mail. More detailed information on the recall campaign is available at www.toyota.com/recall. You will be prompted to enter your vehicle's VIN number for information on whether or not your vehicle is involved in the recall campaign.
Over the last several years, many trucks, SUVs, and minivans have been subject to large-scale airbag-related recalls, including the Ford F-150, Honda Pilot and Odyssey, Nissan Pathfinder, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
