2014 Ford F-150, Super Duty Take Segment Awards in JD Power APEAL Study
Porsche Top-Rated Overall Brand, GMC Yukon Wins Large SUV
The results of the 2014 JD Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) survey are out again, and for the second year in a row, Porsche takes the top spot among all brands. Within the truck and SUV segment, Ford walked away with the win in the light-duty pickup segment with the F-150 and the heavy-duty pickup segment with the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty. The GMC Yukon won in the large SUV segment.
Other category winners in the pickup, van, and SUV segment included the Nissan Rogue in the Compact SUV category, the Audi Q5 in the compact premium segment, Toyota Highlander for the midsize SUV and the Porsche Cayenne for the midsize premium SUV. The Range Rover won in the large premium SUV category.
The study noted buyers’ ongoing frustrations with in-cab electronics and controls, which resulted in a one-point-lower average this year than last year with a score of 794. Fuel economy improved 0.5 mpg for 2014 models compared to last year’s models. The APEAL study is based on responses gathered from 86,000 buyers and lessees of 2014-model-year cars and light trucks after 30 days of ownership. JD Power is best known for its initial quality study (IQS) that is highly cited by auto manufacturers in their advertising and marketing.
