Ram Still Officially Most-Aerodynamic Fullsize Truck

Final Figures for '15 F-150 Not Yet Announced

Aug 27, 2014
Just yesterday, we posted a story pointing out some of the styling and engineering details on the 2015 Ford F-150 that allow it to be the most aerodynamic F-150 in the line’s history, while still retaining its tough, chunky look. With the fullsize truck market being the cutthroat segment that it is, we knew it was just a matter of time before a challenge or “clarification” came from across town and, sure enough, we got one today.
Ram Brand spokesperson Nick Cappa reached out and reminded us the current Ram 1500 has a coefficient of drag of just 0.360. That’s a remarkably low figure for a pickup and better than the outgoing 2014 F-150 (the best figure we could get on it was approximately 0.40). The Ram’s wind tunnel performance is also significantly better than the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, which has Cd of 0.41.
While we know the 2015 F-150 has active grille shutters on some models, as well as flush-mounted front window glass and other wind-cheating features, we don’t have a final figure for the new truck. We know Ford has a commanding position in the fullsize truck market and is likely aiming for “best-in-class” in every category it can, but with an aero figure on par with many passenger cars and crossovers, there’s no question Ram has set the bar pretty high.
