On the newest episode of Epic Drives, host Arthur St. Antoine heads north (way north) to Alaska where he takes a 2014 Toyota 4Runner on one of the most dangerous and desolate roads in the world.
Specifically, St. Antoine will pilot the 4Runner on the two-lane Dalton Highway, which runs along the massive Alaska Pipeline. His trip begins in the Yukon province of Canada, right on the border of east Alaska. The days-long trip will then continue north through the Alaskan cities of Fairbanks and Tok, before crossing the Arctic Circle and into northern part of the state.
Getting St. Antoine to the edge of the Arctic Ocean is a 2014 Toyota 4Runner. The SUV is fitted with a 4.0-liter V-6 (270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque) and four-wheel drive to help power through the rugged and tough portions of the route (St.Antoine eventually performs one important modification). St Antoine plans many adventures along the way, including a visit to a winning dog sled team, cruising on a historic river boat, and even a ride in a Cessna floatplane, which provides stunning views of the Alaskan landscape.
Check out the video below to watch the clean and white 2014 4Runner get muddy on Alaska’s toughest roads.
