Recalls: Toyota Tundra Airbags, Escape Hybrid Coolant Pump
130,000 Tundra, 70,000 Escape/Mariner Models Possibly Affected
Toyota Motor Sales is conducting a voluntary recall of approximately 130,000 2014 Tundra CrewMax and double cab models for an issue with the interior trim interfering with the deployment of the side-curtain airbags in the event of a collision. No crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been reported related to this issue. Concerned owners can contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331, visit toyota.com/recall, or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236. Affected owners should receive a notice by mail. Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, repair affected models.
A smaller number of Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner Hybrids from model years 2005-2008, built between October 13, 2003 and June 20, 2008, are being recalled for a an issue with the hybrid system coolant pump. The pump may fail when it gets too hot, resulting in a shutdown of the powertrain system, causing the vehicle to stall. Approximately 70,209 models are affected by the recall. Ford will inspect and replace the Motor Electronics coolant pump. The recall campaign is scheduled to begin October 27, 2014.
