Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor Makes its European Debut in Paris
Special-Edition SRT Joins European Lineup
Unlike many other American automakers, Jeep has always had a respectable presence in Europe. The Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are favorites for rural families, and the Jeep Wrangler fares well as a lifestyle vehicle. As in the United States, Jeep is seen as a rugged, capable brand.
However, it’s not necessarily perceived to be a maker of particularly sporty, fast cars. That may change with today’s reveal of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor at the Paris Motor Show.
As in the North American-spec model, the Red Vapor unveiled in Paris comes with deep, lustrous Redline Pearl paint, a two-tone black and red interior, glossy black exterior badging, and beautiful 20-inch five-spoke wheels coated in black chrome.
As you probably know, the Grand Cherokee SRT has a 6.4L V-8 that produces 470 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, and along with all other 2014 Grand Cherokees, power goes to the ground through an eight-speed automatic transmission. We've driven it and it's amazing.
The SRT Red Vapor isn’t the first SRT Jeep to be sold on European soil. The current Grand SRT has been available across the pond since its debut in 2012, and it received substantial updates along with the rest of the Grand Cherokee lineup for the 2014 model year. In much of Europe, the SRT is the only gas-powered Grand Cherokee available, as most of the continent prefers the excellent VM Motori 3.0L diesel found in the U.S. under the hood of the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel.
Jeep expects to sell 1,400 Red Vapor packages in Europe.
