My 2014 Chevrolet Silverado vs. 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie MPG - Reader's Letters

Back to Back

I look forward to your magazine as I tow a lot for recreation. I have two gasoline-powered trucks, both of which I bought new. I recently drove each truck separately, lightly loaded, on the same 610-mile round-trip. The speed limit on the I-15 south is almost always 80 mph, and that is what I drove. My 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie crew cab equipped with the 8-speed automatic and 5.7L Hemi averaged 17.5 mpg. On the next trip, my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country with the 6.2L V-8 and 6-speed automatic netted 19.8 mpg. Both are amazing trucks, but I think the big difference is the Chevrolet spent a lot more time in 4-cylinder mode thanks to its cylinder deactivation. PS: Love those Ram Boxes!
