New Episode of “Dirt Every Day” Premieres on Motor Trend Channel
1990 Dodge Diesel Ultimate Tug Truck Featured
Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road is no stranger to some pretty unique vehicle builds, and this month’s installment of “Dirt Every Day” proves that. The episode, which premiered on the Motor Trend Channel today, features a 1990 Dodge Ram diesel that is being built to lead the Petersen’s pack at this year’s Ultimate Adventure.
This Frankenstein’s-monster of pickup trucks started life as a military-spec, chopped-wheelbase airplane tug, but the DED team cut the frame and lengthened it almost 6 feet, all in the name of turning it into a bona fide off-roader. With just nine days to take the truck from an unsuspended shell to a fully built adventure machine, Fred Williams and his team have their work cut out for them.
Mods start out with Dynatrac ProRock 80 axles front and rear, which will hang onto massive 40-inch off-road tires and Method beadlock wheels. BDS Suspension custom-built parts and Fox Racing shock absorbers and coilovers will help keep the truck limber over obstacles, while a fully boxed frame provides a stiff foundation for the flexy suspension parts.
The original Cummins turbodiesel gets paired up with an ATS five-speed manual transmission. An Offroad Designs reduction box provides more wheel torque, and a 4-inch Banks Exhaust keeps the truck breathing easy.
It’s a seriously cool custom build. If you want to be inspired (or to feel inadequate about your own truck), check out the video below, and be sure to check the Motor Trend Channel November 17-21 for more about the Petersen’s 4-Wheel & Off-Road Ultimate Adventure.
