2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE Gets Record-Setting 29 Highway MPG
Efficiency-Minded Model Tops Itself
The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel sure got a lot of headlines when it debuted with its 20 city, 28 mpg highway ratings, the best of any fullsize truck at the time. But with new competition coming from Ford and others, Ram knew they were the new moving target. Today, Ram announced the introduction of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE model, which brings the truck’s fuel economy ratings to an even more remarkable 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The company also notes that this economy figure tops even that of four-cylinder midsize trucks. The 24 mpg combined fuel economy figure is also the best ever achieved by a fullsize truck.
The EcoDiesel HFE will be offered in the Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab configuration with a 6-foot 4-inch bed and 20-inch wheels. The HFE gets the body-colored fascia from the Express model to signify its unique attributes, as well as unique badging to designate its powertrain enhancements. The wheel-to-wheel side steps serve a dual purpose of aiding ingress and egress, as well as improving aerodynamics, one of the contributors to the remarkable economy figure. A three-piece folding tonneau also contributes to its aerodynamic efficiency. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE will go on sale late in the first quarter of 2015.
