2016 Nissan Titan XD Cummins Turbo Animation
Watch the Holset M2 In Action
Based on the pageviews on Truck Trend over the last few weeks, there’s a lot of interest in the 2016 Nissan Titan XD, and specifically, a lot of interest in its 5.0L Cummins twin-turbocharged diesel V-8. The engine features the all-new Holset M2 two-stage turbo system. Initial descriptions of the system’s function were a little dense and obscure. But like the saying goes, a picture is worth 1,000 words. Or in this case, a video animation.
In the video, we see the high-pressure and low-pressure turbos in operations, as well as the compressor bypass valve, and the integrated wastegate in action. Applying this technology on the ISV 5.0L engine results in 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque, giving the Titan XD the most torque of any current half-ton truck, and positioning it in the “white space” that Nissan sees right now between current half-tons and HD trucks. Will the Titan XD and its Cummins engine have the goods to steal market share from the Detroit Three, and even get a few conquest sales from HD intenders? Only time will tell, but we can’t wait for the opportunity to hop in the driver’s seat and see for ourselves.
