James Bond’s Land Rover Vehicles Briefly Seen in Behind-the-Scenes Video
Defender “Big Foot” Seen in YouTube Flick
Earlier this week, we learned that several vehicles produced by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) would appear in the 24th James Bond adventure, called SPECTRE. Apart from the predictable sports and luxury cars, SPECTRE will show off JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations in the form of a specially outfitted Range Rover Sport SVR and the thing we’re most excited about, the Land Rover Defender “Big Foot.”
Well, if you’re desperate for more JLR content, you’d be well advised to check out a behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming film, which we’ve embedded below. Don’t get too excited, as the Big Foot and SVR are only briefly shown in a few shots, and none of the actors or crew talks about the SUVs directly. But we do get a slightly closer look at the aggressive Landies, which show two completely different sides of the same coin.
On one hand, there’s the Range Rover Sport SVR, the most powerful vehicle Land Rover has ever produced. The production version puts 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque to the ground via a 5.0L supercharged V-8, good for a top speed of 162 mph and a 0-60 sprint in 4.5 seconds, according to the company. There’s no word on what (if any) mechanical or performance modifications were done to the SVR movie car, but Special Vehicle Operations fit the Sport with aggressive-looking LED lighting, both within the grille and on a low-profile, roof-mounted lightbar. It also looks like it might get some new ground effects, but again, the SVR’s appearance in the video is too brief to make any conclusive statements.
On the other hand, there’s the legendary Land Rover Defender, but this "Big Foot" is no mere off-roader. With 37-inch tires, a significant suspension lift, and aggressive body armoring, the Big Foot looks like it could be about as capable of crushing cars as the bright-blue monster truck with which it shares its name. Mounted to all those off-road bits is a rare (and very cool) Defender 110 Double Cab Pick Up body. Neither Land Rover nor evil international organization SPECTRE have revealed any details about other performance modifications to the Big Foot, but suffice it to say, it should be very impressive in most sticky (or snowy) situations, and we'll be dreaming about taking it on an around-the-world expedition tonight.
The behind-the-scenes video primarily covers the decision to shoot one of SPECTRE’s most exciting action sequences in Sölden, Austria. “Austria seemed to offer everything that we needed to pull it off,” according to Associate Producer Gregg Wilson. Also featured in the video are Léa Seydoux and Dave Bautista, two of the movie’s stars; Dennis Gassner, production designer; and Martin Joy, production manager. James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, also makes a cameo in this behind-the-scenes look.
We’re excited for the movie (primarily because we want to see more of that Big Foot eating up snowy terrain), and we’re bummed we have to wait until November 6 to see it.
