2016 GMC Terrain Gets Nip and Tuck

Mild Freshening Precedes All-New Model Expected Soon

Mar 31, 2015
The GMC Terrain is going into its sixth model year since its introduction as a 2010 model and has given General Motors’ bespoke truck brand an entry in the hyper-competitive compact/midsize crossover segment. The last major change to the Terrain, and its platform twin, the Chevrolet Equinox, was the addition of the optional 3.6L V-6 for the ’13 model. The Equinox and Terrain are due for a complete redesign soon, but in the meantime, GM is giving these two a freshening to keep them at the front of customers’ minds.

What’s New
Most of the updates to the ’16 Terrain are cosmetic in nature, with a new grille and LED running lights on higher-trim models. New 18- and 19-inch wheel designs complement the new front and rear fascias that get a C-shaped chrome trim accent. Finally, the hood gets a new “power dome” design. White Frost Tricoat and Crimson Red Tintcoat are added to the color palette.

On the inside, the Terrain gets a new center stack with a storage shelf, standard premium cloth fabric on the SL and SLE models, optional “Saddle Up” leather on the SLT, and a Light Titanium/Jet Black two-tone trim available on the Denali model. An eight-way adjustable front passenger seat—previously available only on the Denali trim— is now offered on the SLT trim. The side and rear blind spot alert system previously exclusive to the Denali is now available on the SLE and SLT models.
Power and output from the standard 2.4L I-4 and optional 3.6L V-6 are unchanged. Prices will be announced closer to the model’s on sale date in fall 2015.
