It’s Official: U.S. Finally Getting Mercedes-AMG G65 V-12
Über G-Wagen Gets House-Like Price Tag
Although the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is well out of reach for most of us, the majority of Truck Trend staffers—and likely many of you reading this—are great fans of the vehicle affectionately known by off-road enthusiasts around the world as the “G-Wagen.” For years, it was imported as a gray-market model, until Mercedes-Benz finally decided to make it an official part of its U.S. lineup in 2001. Since that time, we’ve seen numerous variants of the G-Wagen sold globally, including the insane 6x6 model and, most recently, the G500 4x4 with portal axles. Well, for those who have the pocketbooks deep enough, the U.S. market is finally going to get the king of them all: the V-12–powered Mercedes-AMG G65.
But unless your last name is Gates or Buffett, this isn’t going to be your weekend rock-beater at a price of $218,825, including $925 destination. Sorry, 30-year financing isn’t offered. So what exactly do you get for that princely sum? A 621hp, 738-lb-ft, 6.0L V-12; three locking differentials; and, of course, the cachet and exclusivity that come with owning a G-Wagen. The G65 will go on sale starting in November 2015. More details on its equipment and specifications will be revealed closer to its sale date.
