2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD Chassis Cab Gets CNG Option
Bi-Fuel CNG Package Will Be Offered in Fourth Quarter
North America has experienced a boom in natural gas production, and more uses are being found all the time for the clean-burning fuel. In addition to being an ever-greater percentage of the U.S. electrical power generation, commercial fleets are showing greater interest in natural gas as gasoline and diesel prices fluctuate from week to week. Fleet and commercial customers will soon have another option in the form of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD Chassis Cab. The truck joins the bi-fuel CNG models offered in the 2500 and 3500 HD line.
One of the biggest customers for the new truck is likely to be natural gas utility companies, and Southern California Gas plans to make the majority of its over-the-road fleet CNG by 2020, up from 22 percent today. On the Chassis Cab, which will be offered as a regular-cab model, the 24.5-gallon CNG tank is mounted behind the cab and supplements a 23.5-gallon gasoline tank.
For qualified commercial and government customers, 5-year/100,000-mile warranty also covers the CNG fuel system. For other customers, General Motors’ standard 5-year/60,000 mile warranty applies. All major components of the CNG fuel system carry GM service part numbers and can be serviced at any authorized Chevrolet dealership nationwide.
