2015 Chevrolet Silverado Owners Active Technology Users
Largest Users of OnStar Mobile App, 99 Percent Opt for 4G Trial
The stereotype of truck owners as being country bumpkins a few years behind the technological curve is a dated assumption that has little-to-no bearing in the reality of today’s truck buyers. For a variety of reasons, contemporary truck owners are some of the most active users of technology features on their trucks, and data from General Motors bears this out. Chevrolet claims Silverado owners are the largest group of users utilizing the OnStar RemoteLink mobile app, utilizing the app’s features to check tire pressure, determine oil levels, or use the remote start feature.
Furthermore, a claimed 99 percent of new 2015 Silverado owners opt in for the three-month 4G data trial. Among buyers that opt in beyond the trail period, the 1GB per month option is most popular. For fleet owners, through a partnership with Telogis, owners and fleet operators can track vehicle location, speed, fuel economy, maintenance needs, and engine hours.
GM has taken a slightly different strategy with its technology integration than Ford, opting for built-in data and connectivity. Ford, with its upcoming Sync 3 system, pairs with owners’ home WiFi systems to perform over-the-air updates and utilizes owners’ existing mobile devices for data services.
