2016 Holden Colorado Z71 New Top Aussie Trim
Unique Trim, Styling Counters Ranger Wildtrak
It may not be the land of F-150s and Silverados, but a case could be made for Australians being nearly as fond of trucks as Americans. After all, this is the country that invented the “ute,” the predecessor to what Americans would know as the Ford Ranchero and Chevrolet El Camino. Not long ago, we brought you news of the new Ford Ranger Wildtrak, the new global (outside of North America) pickup flagship. Not to be out-done, Holden, General Motors’ bespoke Australian brand, lifted the covers on the 2016 Holden Colorado Z71.
To help it stand out from the crowd, the Z71 features black trim pieces and a black hood applique to contrast against a choice of five exterior colors: Summit White, Sizzle Red, Black Sapphire, Satin Steel Grey, and Orange Rock (pictured). A soft tonneau is standard, with a hard tonneau optional. The Z71 gets the 2.8L Duramax I-4 diesel engine standard, making 369 lb-ft of torque and 197 hp. Before you start getting too jealous of that powertrain option, the U.S.-spec Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon will get a version of this engine for the 2016 model year, tuned for the specific regulations and needs of the U.S. market. But if you want the top-of-the-line Holden pickup, bring your wallet and your 800 credit score. The Z71 starts at the equivalent of $46,000 U.S.
