2011-2015 Dodge Journey I-4 Engine Cover Recall
Engine Cover Could Contact Exhaust Manifold, V-6 Models Not Affected
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling approximately 144,416 Dodge Journey crossover models from the 2011 to 2015 model years equipped with the 2.4L I-4 engine. The company found that on prolonged driving on rough roads, the cover could dislodge and come in contact with the exhaust manifold, which could result in a fire hazard. The Journey is sold in many overseas markets as the Fiat Freemont. The incident was discovered after three reported incidents in the South American country of Chile. In each case, rough roads were determined to be the culprit.
Indications of this issue could be an unusual amount of noise coming from the engine compartment, unusual odors, and a warning light on the dashboard. As part of the recall repair, dealers will install upgraded engine cover retainers. The recall campaign will start in August, at which time dealers will be authorized to perform the repair.
Other affected markets include an estimated 43,679 vehicles in Canada, 46,231 in Mexico, and 115,405 outside of the NAFTA area. Globally, 349,731 vehicles are subject to the recall. Concerned owners can call the FCA U.S. Customer Care Center at 800-853-1403 or visit recalls.mopar.com and enter their vehicle’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN).
