New Ford Headlights to See Road Hazards at Night
Ford is working on some interesting lighting tech that would improve the ability to see people and animals as well as other hazards while driving at night. It would be a camera-based system that would widen its beam at junctions to catch things not in the direction of travel. It works off GPS to illuminate dips and such on the road, and if GPS isn't available, then it relies on a forward-facing video camera in the rearview mirror to predict road curves and bends.

This is hitchBOT
Just in case you passed a robot hitchhiking this summer, allow us to introduce you to what you saw: hitchBOT. It's a 3-foot-tall hitchhiking robot from Canada that has been trying to travel the U.S. from Boston to San Francisco. When we went to press, it hadn't made it much farther than a small local loop. It does have speech technology in order to engage in some basic dialogue. Previously, the 25-pounder thumbed its way through Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands.
