FCA Recalls 2014-2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel
Wiring Harness Could Short Circuit, Cause Fire
The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has gotten into the headlines recently for its class-leading fuel economy and is one of the favorite new models among the Truck Trend Network staff. However, as good as it is, it’s not immune from the usual issues that sometimes affect newer models. In this instance, the piece in question is a wiring harness under the hood.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling 1,747 2014-2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4x2 trucks in the U.S. and Canada for possible chafing of the harness against a metal bracket. If the harness wears through, it could result in a loss of power or fire. In some cases, the condition has caused dashboard warning lights to illuminate. FCA is unaware of any reported accidents, injuries, or fires related to the issue. An estimated 1,697 models are in the U.S. and 50 in Canada.
Affected owners will be notified next month when they can schedule a service appointment with their local dealer for warranty repairs. While not all of the trucks subject to the recall may need repair, the company advises all owners that receive a recall notice to bring their trucks in for an assessment to determine whether a repair is necessary.
