Jaguar Finally Shows Off the Production F-Pace SUV
Single Image Shown After Months of Teasing
Fans of the Leaping Cat may have celebrated when they heard that Jaguar would show off the F-Pace luxury crossover without camouflage today. We’ve certainly been excited to see the SUV unveiled after what seems like an eternity of teaser videos and photos of the Jag wrapped in psych vinyl wrap.
Imagine our disappointment, then, when we saw the lone single image the company released. The profile shot of the seemingly lovely F-Pace barely shows us anything new. The roofline is familiar, taken nearly straight from the C-X17 concept car. While the pillars are thicker than that delicate (and likely crush-prone) SUV’s, the whole of the F-Pace’s shape neatly echoes that of its concept predecessor.
Aside from F-Type–inspired rear haunches and a de rigeur fender vent, there’s not much the photo reveals. Still, the F-Pace will be a very attractive Jaguar, we’re sure, given how faithful its overall shape is to the stunning C-X17.
We expect the F-Pace’s powertrain offerings will mirror that of the XF sedan on which it’s based. That means a supercharged 3.0L V-6 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with power routed to all four wheels. We also bet that the motor will be retuned to match the SUV’s differing mission, with additional power and torque to offset its slightly higher curb weight.
And weight increase over the sedan should indeed be slight. It’s built on the company’s aluminum-intensive architecture, a move that spells impressive weight savings for other Jaguar vehicles. Expect the F-Pace to deliver segment-leading dynamics, perhaps even besting those of its Range Rover Sport corporate sibling.
The F-Pace will be revealed in full just before this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, on September 14. The press and public will be able to view the SUV in person at the auto show, which begins three days later.
