“Back to the Future” Statler Toyota Previews Tacoma Tribute on YouTube
Yellow KC Lighting, Silly Ties in Abundance
If you’re excited about the Back to the Future Toyota Tacoma tribute truck, you’d better book a train ticket to Hill Valley, California, and book an appointment at the local Toyota dealer, because it looks like Jimmy Joe Statler has the inside scoop.
As seen Toyota’s two most recent YouTube videos, the fictitious Statler Toyota will have the honors of pulling the silk sheets off the custom, 2016 Tacoma 4x4 that will evoke memories of Marty McFly’s dream truck, the custom 1985 pickup he lusted after in BTTF and drove in its three-quel, Back to the Future Part III.
While we don’t get to see the actual truck until October 21, when Statler Toyota will reveal it in full, Jimmy Joe does give us a few tiny little clues as to what we can expect. Immediately apparent under the sheet’s silhouette is a rollbar with four round accessory lights, and Mr. Statler can’t resist pulling the silk back just enough to show off a tubular front bumper, blacked-out grille, and best of all, two rectangular driving lamps (with yellow KC HiLITES covers)!
The spoof video and its teaser followup are completely silly, with Jimmy Joe Statler’s twin-knot tie flanking his shirt’s gig line, just like a middle-aged Marty McFly’s. Flying cars can be seen in reflections off the showroom’s windows, and little allusions to Statler’s 180-year history in Hill Valley prevail. These videos are a must-watch for any BTTF fan, and they definitely make us salivate at what’s to come from Toyota in just two short days.
Until then, if you’re a die-hard fan, dial 1-877-STATLER, which will connect you to the "dealership." There, you can leave your name and address and receive a free Statler Toyota license plate frame or learn more about Toyota’s BTTF plans, including the debut of the Mirai hydrogen car.
