Gran Turismo Awards Calls for SEMA Show Entries; Winner to be Immortalized in Game
Truck Trend Network Director to Help Judge Truck/SUV Competition
A legendary racing video game franchise is calling for entries from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show into its Gran Turismo Awards competition. The contest, which is open for registration until November 1, has a most intriguing grand prize: the winner’s inclusion as a playable vehicle in an upcoming Gran Turismo release. Winners will be chosen from a list of finalists in five categories, including hot rod, truck/SUV, domestic, European, and Asian.
The Truck Trend Network’s own Sean P. Holman will be on hand to help judge the Truck/SUV portion of the competition. He and several other judges will pick one winner from each category, then the grand prize winner will be selected by the father of Gran Turismo, Kazunori Yamauchi himself.
Last year’s category winner, showed above, was a 1952 Chevrolet 3100 with some substantial modifications, including a paddle-shifted automatic transmission and a supercharged small-block V-8, riding on a Corvette C4 chassis with Corvette Z06 brakes. It was a real showstopper, but ultimately, it lost the overall competition to an equally impressive 1970 Chevrolet Camaro restomod.
The deadline for entries is November 1, and the category winners and overall contest champ will be announced on November 4 at a party at the Marquee Nightclub.
