Kia Bringing Forte Koup Mud Bogger to SEMA 2015

Compact Car Modified with 4-Inch Lift, Bog Tires

Oct 28, 2015
It’s happened to us before, too. You graduate high school and head off to college and all of a sudden, your romantic interests no longer seem impressed by your smoking heap of an ’87 pickup riding on steel wheels and mismatched mud-terrain tires. So you buckle down and trade into a sensible, boring compact car. Your parents are thrilled you’re finally growing up, and your dates are constantly cooing over your Bluetooth stereo and standard air conditioning.
But after the new wears off, you realize you miss those rainy, dirt-road days when you could throw up 20-foot roostertails of sloppy, perfect mud. Well, Kia has your solution.
That’s because the South Korean automaker will bring a lifted Forte Koup to the 2015 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. Courtesy of a 4-inch suspension and body lift, 28-inch tires, and heavily modified bodywork, Kia has turned its coed-spec compact car into a fierce four-wheeler for the American South.
Fitting those tires, which are 3 inches taller than the normal Forte Koup’s P225/40R18 meats, required a bit more than the custom lift. The fenders and side skirts were modified for use on the Mud Bogger, and custom fender flares (try to) keep everything road-legal. Inside, the carpet was swapped out for Line-X protective coating, and Sparco Evo II racing buckets replace the Koup’s stock seats. A custom rollcage and exterior exoskeleton are powdercoated white, which matches the wheels on which the tires are mounted.
OK, so it’s not a perfect replacement for a Ford Highboy, but if your parents, significant other, or accountant insist you get a compact car, let this Kia be your template when it comes time to make it your own.
