"Motor Trend" Pits BMW X6 M Against Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe - VIDEO
“Hunchbacks of the Nürburgring” Featured on Head 2 Head
It’s hard to fault Mercedes-Benz for wanting to build a coupe-like SUV. As Motor Trend Features Editor Johnny Lieberman points out in the magazine’s newest entry on their YouTube channel, BMW has been raking in the green on its X6, essentially a fastback variant of the X5 SUV. The X6’s perceived exclusivity and style give it a base price $5,000 higher than its more traditional sibling, meaning BMW makes more on every X6 they sell.
With Benz keen to do battle with BMW on every front, and that meant a coupe SUV with a three-pointed star. Since BMW offers their X6 in M-car spec, Mercedes will happily sell you its all-new GLE Coupe as an AMG. With the BMW X6 M and Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe vying for your hard-earned, poorly spent bucks, our friends at Motor Trend took it on themselves to see which one is best on the road, at the track, and in a parking lot. In the latest episode of Head 2 Head, the Benz and Bimmer join Liebermann and pro racing driver Randy Pobst for a few days of frolicking in Southern California.
It’s a funny video, and it pulls no punches in regard to these vehicles’ dubious styling and value propositions. Johnny and Randy even enjoy taking a few pot shots at those who traditionally buy these über-coupe utilities. Find it embedded here or on YouTube at the Motor Trend Channel.
