Tucson With ’Tude – Hyundai Releases Sketch of SEMA Concept
Cute Ute Transformed Into Off-Road Warrior
The first name that comes to mind for off-road SUVs is typically the Jeep Wrangler, although the Cherokee crossover has proven itself to be surprisingly capable on the rocks. One model you don’t typically think of when you’re about to hit the trails is the Hyundai Tucson. However, Hyundai is hoping to change some perceptions of its cute ute with its Tucson SEMA concept built in conjunction with Rockstar Performance Garage.
The Tucson concept certainly looks the part, thanks to 32-inch Mickey Thompson MTZ P3 off-road tires mounted on 17-inch KMC wheels, King Shocks, and a 6-inch suspension lift. The 1.6L turbocharged I-4 engine gets a performance boost with upgraded turbo piping, a Magnaflow exhaust, K&N intake, and Mishimoto intercooler. Additional styling details that add to the rugged image are a custom Bulldog LED lightbar and 2-inch bumper “spikes,” smoked rear taillights, and custom off-road bumpers. As with production Tucson models, the concept comes equipped with the latest generation of Hyundai’s BlueLink telematics system, allowing remove unlocking and starting from a mobile or smartwatch app.
For those that work in the automotive trade, the Tucson will be featured at the 2015 SEMA Show the first week of November.
