Nissan Makes Retro-Themed Short Video on NV Cargo Van
Campy Action Adventures Showcase Attributes
The line between entertainment and advertising gets ever blurrier each year, with product placement a major revenue source for Hollywood, and prime placement highly sought after by companies wanting to get their products in the public eye. However, the inverse can be true as well, with long-form advertisements cleverly written and filmed to fit into a TV or movie genre. That’s just what Nissan did with The Delivery, a 6-minute mini action flick featuring ’80s action stars Mickey Rourke and Carl Weathers, and starring the Nissan NV fullsize cargo van.
Complete with campy spaghetti western background music and the usual cast of villains and shady characters, the film’s Rourke and Weathers make a “special delivery” to Mexico in an NV disguised as a florist van. The two stop at a cantina south of the border for “the special.” The pair is confronted by the local gangsters hanging out in the bar, and a fracas ensues. Comically, the two walk out unscathed but are chased down by the gang’s leader played by Raymond Cruz. Several freeze-frame moments in the action short highlight the NV’s commercial-grade suspension “Like a Boss,” the 5.6L V-8’s “huevos,” and “super grande” 14-inch brakes. You can watch the campy, yet informative flick below.
