Mercedes-Benz Designo Division Offers Custom G-Wagens, For A Price
Custom-Trimmed SUVs Range From $97,000-$305,000
If a Range Rover Autobiography or Cadillac Escalade Platinum is just too commonplace for your luxury SUV tastes, there is another option. Mercedes-Benz has announced its “Designo Manufaktur” program for the G-Class. The program consists of custom paint, trim, and wheel packages for the G-Class. On the lower end of the price scale, the G350d starts at €89,922, or the equivalent of 97,382 U.S. dollars, going all the way up to a staggering €282,208, or approximately $305,000 for an AMG G65 Edition 463.
So what exactly do these lavish sums get you? To start, your choice of custom paint in non-metallic, metallic, or matte finish, black painted alloy wheels, and a stainless steel ring around the spare tire cover painted black or body color. The Night package adds Obsidian Black Metallic-painted mirror housings, wheel arches, bumpers, and roof, plus tinted windows from the B-pillar back.
Naturally, the Designo treatment carries through to the interior, where customers have the choice of custom top-stitching, Designo-exclusive leather colors including Saddle Brown, Deep-Sea Blue, Silk Beige, and Mocha Brown. If that’s still not enough customization for your discerning tastes, you can specify the Dinamica interior package that adds the eponymous microfiber synthetic suede material to the headliner, steering wheel grip areas, door panels, dashboard, and head restraints. Other personalization options include red seatbelts and leather grab handles. Other than the restrictions on powertrains, which for the U.S. are limited to gas V-8s and V-12s, we see no reason a U.S.-bound G-Wagen couldn’t get the Designo treatment.
