2016 Ford Explorer Platinum to Make Cameo in X-Files Revival Premiere
Other Ford Products to be Featured in Mini-Series
Cars and trucks have often played prominent roles in movies and TV. Steve McQueen will be forever associated with the Ford Mustang thanks to his performance in “Bullitt”; Bo and Luke Duke will always be linked with a Dodge Charger; and in the revival of “Hawaii Five-0,” “Danno” Williams’ black Camaro is an integral part of the prickly officer’s persona. Well, sci-fi fans, if you’re planning on tuning in to watch the revival of the “X-Files,” this weekend after the NFC Championship game on Fox, be prepared to see a lot of Ford products. Agent Scully will ride around in a top-of-the-line Explorer Platinum in the six-episode mini-series. Other Ford models that will be featured in the show include the Mustang, Escape, and a Taurus.
Although arguably a forgettable bit player in the original series, Ford notes that Scully’s partner Fox Mulder referred to his 1993 Ford Taurus in the original series as “a good American car.” Coincidentally, the new Explorer, in the guise of the Police Interceptor Utility, has become the vehicle of choice for law enforcement agencies across the country since the discontinuation of the original Crown Victoria–based Police Interceptor. The Explorer-based Interceptor has won over departments due to its cargo and payload capacity, ample space for tactical equipment, and police-specific upfits.
