Did this Forum Just Leak the 2017 Nissan Armada SUV?
Titan XD Enthusiast Forum Shows Picture of Heavily Facelifted Nissan Patrol
Nissan Titan enthusiasts may have revealed the forthcoming 2017 Nissan Armada, and it looks like it could take the shape of a facelifted Nissan Patrol.
The single image shown was sourced from a TitanXDForum.com user’s friend, whom the original poster claims works for an advertising agency. It doesn’t take a trained eye to notice the vehicle’s similarities to the current Nissan Patrol (sold here as the Infiniti QX80), but there are some slight differences to give the rumor credence.
For one, the vehicle in the image is sporting some LED-equipped headlamps framing a bolder, Titan-like grille and blocky front bumper. Large, bronze-finished wheels and dark silver rocker panel accents also update the truck’s appearance, as does a body-color A-pillar (a departure from the current Patrol’s black pillar).
Some industry experts are calling bull on the forum poster’s claim, saying the five-year-old platform doesn’t make sense as a replacement for the even more dated current Armada. Additionally, the Patrol’s independent front and rear suspension could be too expensive for a commodity vehicle like the Armada. And another hole in the claim is that Nissan just spent millions of dollars reengineering the Titan and Titan XD, so it’s arguable the company would want to divest that cost a bit more with a fullsize SUV, rather than base it on a wholly different platform.
It’s rumored that Nissan will pull the sheets off the non-XD Titan at next week’s Chicago Auto Show, but will we get a double-whammy reveal with an all-new Armada? Time will tell.
