Ford Recalls F-150 For Massaging Seats, Transit Wagon for Rear Seat Belts
Two Separate Recalls Related to Safety Concerns
Ford will recall about 3,700 2016 F-150 pickups and approximately 51,500 2015-2016 Transit wagons in two separate safety recalls.
The F-150 will be recalled due to an issue with the optional multi-contour seating. If the passenger seat’s massage function is turned on with an adult rider, a flaw in the occupant detection system may classify the passenger as a child and depower or turn off the airbag. This would increase the risk of injury in a crash. A software update carried out by a Ford dealer rectifies the issue. The recall applies to certain F-150s built at the Dearborn Truck Plant equipped with multi-contour seats. That option is available on King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trim levels.
The rear seat buckles in affected Ford Transit wagons may suffer damage if heavy objects are placed on them. In that case, the buckles may no longer latch correctly, again increasing the risk of crash-related injuries for rear-seat occupants. To remedy the issue, Ford dealers will inspect and repair or replace the seat belt buckles as necessary.
The company says it is not aware of any injuries or deaths related to either safety recall, and both will be carried out at no cost to the vehicle owner.
