Beat-Up Yellow Space Ship Treks Up California Coast

Feb 2, 2016
Remember the Toy Story fans who built their own Pizza Planet delivery truck back in 2011? After a one-year-plus planning and build process, they set out on a trip from Huntington Beach, California, to Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville,, with a variety of public appearances and diversions along the way.

The team behind the custom 1988 Toyota (complete with 1980s-chic yellow paint, illuminated spaceship roof topper, and white fiberglass bed cap) posted a video chronicling their journey from concept to reality, including their trip to the Bay Area to visit Pixar. The video, embedded below, is a fun watch, making us long for a lighthearted road trip with our friends (and lots of pizza).
The video description has a link to the Pizza Planet Truck Mission Log, a blog detailing the custom Toyota’s current exploits, including car shows and other appearances. The blog also shows the truck’s build process, including the team’s thorough, faithful recreation of the truck. They even thought to include the tailgate’s “YO” script and a license plate that matches that of the truck from the Toy Story movies. The blog is a fun read as well, so be sure to check it out.
