Non-XD Model Hits Dealers Late Summer 2016

No, you can’t get it with a Cummins, but the non-XD Nissan Titan is expected to make up the majority of the line’s sales. We got a sneak peek at the lighter-duty Titan at the Chicago Auto Show. Now, Nissan is ready to show off the Titan in all its glory in the Big Apple. At first glance, the Titan is nearly indistinguishable from its heavier-duty brother. However, a closer inspection reveals the body sits lower on the frame and the distance between the rear cab door and the rear wheel well is shorter by virtue of the non-XD crew cab’s 11.8-inch shorter wheelbase. Overall length is also 14.7 inches shorter than its XD equivalent.

Despite the visual similarities, Nissan goes to great lengths to stress the XD and non-XD Titans are completely different trucks under the skin. However, the two will share a common engine in the form of the 390hp 401–lb-ft 5.6L Endurance 32-valve DOHC direct-injected V-8. The engine is expected to be the volume powerplant for both the XD and non-XD Titans. The XD will be supplemented by the Cummins 5.0L turbodiesel V-8, and the Titan will eventually be offered in a lower-cost V-6 variant, most likely a 4.0L V-6, possibly with direct-injection for improved power and fuel economy. The non-XD Titan will reach dealers in late summer 2016, in crew cab V-8 form. Regular cab and King (extended) cab and V-6 variants are expected to follow later.
