Ford Issues Three Recall Announcements, One of Which Resulted From Fires

Recalls Affect Transit, Medium-Duty Trucks, Explorer, Lincoln MKC

Mar 31, 2016
Ford announced three recalls today on three separate models, with one of the recalls resulting from two reported vehicle fires. That particular recall applies to certain 2015 and 2016 Ford Explorer and Lincoln MKC SUVs sold with engine-block heaters. The heaters on two Canadian-market vehicles caused underhood fires.
In total, 3,129 Lincoln MKCs and 2,407 Ford Explorers will be recalled, with most of them residing in Canada (where the block heater is more common), although some United States–market vehicles are affected. There are no reported injuries associated with this recall, and Ford will replace the existing block heater with an improved unit free of charge.

In addition, low-roof 2015 and 2016 Transit vans will be recalled to inspect and adjust the side-impact curtain airbags. It’s possible that some vehicles had their airbags positioned incorrectly on one or both sides of the vehicle. More than 37,000 Transits will be recalled, the vast majority of which reside in the United States. Ford is unaware of any injuries resulting from the airbag issue.
Finally, the company is recalling 4,800 F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks to inspect and repair their parking brake cable connector clips. The clips could break and cause unintended movement of a parked vehicle. Again, Ford is unaware of any injuries or accidents resulting from this recall.
As is par for the course for vehicle recalls, Ford dealers will perform each of the above repairs at no cost to the vehicle owner.
