More Plans for Ram, Jeep Revealed at Dealer Meeting

Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, New Ram Models Promised

Apr 1, 2016
While Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) plan to double down on trucks and SUVs as the rest of the market scrambles to meet stiffening Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards may bewilder some, the company gave its dealers more details about its upcoming product plans at its annual dealer meeting in Las Vegas, according to an Automotive News report. Taking a definite back seat in terms of priority were the company’s two tepid-selling sedans, the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. One of the dealers in attendance said the company told them the cars aren’t disappearing entirely, but that future models will be built by a partner company.
Reid Bigland, FCA’s North American sales chief, said that both a Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer model were in the works for the Jeep brand, confirming earlier rumors about the nameplate’s revival. Plans for a Jeep pickup truck were also discussed. An expanded Ram truck lineup was also promised, although specific product plans were not reported in detail. The appointment of Bob Hegbloom to head up the Ram brand’s international expansion suggests the U.S. market could see more variants of FCA’s global products sold as Fiats in overseas markets, as well as potential rebranding of some Fiat Commercial models as Rams.
