2016 GMC Sierra Adds High-Tech Towing Aids
HD Gooseneck/Fifth Wheel Package, Camera System Added
As with its bowtie-clad sibling, the 2016 GMC Sierra adds some high-tech trailering aids for 2016 for 1500 and HD models designed to make towing safer and more convenient. For HD models, a gooseneck/fifth-wheel hitch platform is offered for $350. The platform is mounted beneath the bed floor and can accommodate a gooseneck ball hitch or fifth-wheel mounting plate. A bed-mounted seven-pin wiring harness is included with the package. The package also includes hole plugs to allow for full use of the bed for cargo when not towing. Also offered through dealers is a gooseneck completion kit for $315 which includes a 2 5/16-inch ball hitch and two chain tie-downs. CURT Manufacturing fifth-wheel hitches are also available from dealers in 20,000- and 25,000-pound capacities for $939 and $999, respectively.
Available for all 2014-2016 Sierra 1500 and HD models is a multi-camera system developed in conjunction with Echomaster that can display up to four camera views at the side and rear of the truck, as well as a remote-mountable camera that can give a view of cargo within an enclosed trailer. Later this summer, a bed cargo camera integrated with the third brake light will be available through dealers. The camera feeds are viewable through the IntelliLink display on the dashboard. Finally, certain 2016 Sierra models offer a digital steering assist system to aid stability while towing.
