Control Your New Bentley Bentayga Through Your Apple Watch
Is the Bentayga the Automotive King of Timepieces?
In case you haven’t heard, one of the many optional features on the Bentley Bentayga is a Breitling-designed Tourbillon dashboard clock that costs (wait for it) $160,000. 160 grand, not for a car, but for a clock that goes inside the car!
But that’s not the only timepiece trick Bentley has up its sleeve. While the self-winding Breitling is a thing of classical watchmaking beauty, customers with more modern tastes may be interested in the car’s available Apple Watch app. By syncing with the $229,100 Bentayga’s Touch Screen Remote, a passenger can use his or her smartwatch to control the vehicle’s climate controls, in-car entertainment, and seat settings. Bentley clearly says the app is for those who are being driven, not for those who are driving. Good distinction.
Now, some of us on the Truck Trend staff love to see in-car technology on the cutting edge. However, even those of us who aren’t Luddites struggle to see how Bentley’s Apple Watch app makes things more convenient. Then again, perhaps with some familiarity, the app could be easier and less straining on the delicate backs of the 1 percent than, you know, leaning forward and touching an actual button.
Regardless, with vehicle connectivity at an all-time high and new technologies racing forward, it’s only a matter of time before Bentayga competitors get in on the smartwatch game.
