GMC Chromes Up Yukon with SLT Premium Edition
Special Styling Sets Premium Edition Apart
Big families will have a slightly tougher time selecting a vehicle this summer, when the GMC Yukon SLT Premium Edition hits showrooms.
Building on the already well-equipped Yukon SLT, the Premium Edition sets itself above its siblings with unique exterior fittings, providing the SLT with much of the visual verve of the even nicer Denali. Chief among those upgrades are massive 22-inch chrome wheels with a bold design. The shiny stuff also makes an appearance on the Yukon’s bodyside molding, giving it quite a bit more flash than standard SLTs. A new front grille features several horizontal bars occupying the space within the chrome radiator shell. The design is unique to the Premium Edition. Around back, polished exhaust tips complete the package.
If we’re honest, it’s all a bit too much for us. We far prefer the understated design of our Sierra Denali Pickup Truck of the Year winner to this chromed-up fullsize SUV. That’s not to say it’s not attractive, though, as the Premium Edition retains the Yukon SLT’s trim, modern appearance. Some of us think it looks better without the chrome, but then again, many will disagree.
Pricing hasn’t been announced, but GMC offers optional 22-inch wheels on the Yukon SLT for less than $3,000. Since the company’s special editions usually represent a value proposition for bundling options together, we bet the Premium Edition’s price increase will be about 3 grand.
