Iceland’s Formula Offroad Proves You Can Do Backflips and Drive on Water - Video
These Nordics know how to wheel
Off-road racing takes guts, whether it’s hillclimbs in custom buggies or blasting through the whoops at 130 mph in a Trophy truck, just like BJ Baldwin. However, racers that run in the Formula Offroad take racing to another extreme. These Iceland off-roaders take their highly modified off-road machines and take on the steepest hills with the loosest soil and then drive across water -- yes, large bodies of water. When was the last time you tried that and lived to tell the tale?
The racing season is just getting underway, and the 2016 Hella event was jam packed with crazy racing action. With turbocharged engines, huge paddle tires, and a no-fear mentality, these racers flipped, flopped, and hydroplaned their way across the racecourse. These are pretty much amphibious vehicles at this point.
Watch all the awesome action from these sweet buggies as they kick up plenty of mud in the first race of the year and show us how important a rollcage is when wheeling. If you think this looks like a kickass time, you can go for a ride in one of these killer machines next time you find yourself in Iceland. You can get all that information at offroadreykjavik.is.
