The same also applies in marketing, and General Motors thinks it’s found a doozy in the Ford F-150’s aluminum bed. Although Ford maintains the fullsize sales lead -- as it has for the past 39 years -- there are signs that cracks may be forming in Ford’s seemingly impenetrable sales dominance, according to Automotive News.
According to the latest information from Autodata Corp. cited in the story, incentives are currently averaging $3,343 on the F-Series and $4,951 on the Silverado. Incentives on the Ram pickups are running an average of $5,698. Although many expect the next-generation GM trucks, expected in 2018 as 2019 models, to employ a mix of materials, including aluminum, high-strength steel, and composites, GM says it will employ strategic construction putting “the right material in the right place.” You can be sure they won’t be making the bed floor out of aluminum.
