2017 Range Rover Sport Adds New Tech

Larger Touchscreen, More Driving Aids Standard

Aug 17, 2016
The Range Rover Sport is one of our staff favorites. Combining the indulgent luxury of its big brother Range Rover with a leaner, more useful, and slightly less-expensive package, it has the off-road chops to wheel with the best of them. For the 2017 model year, the Sport is getting some updates to its interior and standard equipment to make it an even more compelling proposition.
Inside, the center touchscreen display gets a bump in size from 8 inches to 10.2 inches, allowing designers to eliminate many physical buttons and incorporate those functions into the touchscreen, resulting in a cleaner appearance. The new display also adds intuitive pinch and zoom functions similar to smartphones and tablets.
Among the new driver aids for 2017 are Low Traction Launch, which eases acceleration from low-grip surfaces, and Advanced Tow Assist, which functions very similarly to Ford’s Pro Trailer backup assist in the F-150. In this application, Range Rover uses the Terrain Response controller to steer the vehicle, with directional prompts and rearview images displayed on the center touchscreen. Also included in the 2017 updates is an enhanced All-Terrain Info Center, which displays vehicle geometry, slope assist engagement, wheel information, and Drive Assist, which utilizes the vehicle’s surround cameras to aid in low-speed off-road maneuvers. Also included is a Commute Mode in the navigation system, which memorizes regular routes and can recommend less-congested routes. More remote destinations can be transferred from the vehicle to the Land Rover mobile app for door-to-door directions on foot.
The 2017 model also simplifies some of the option packages by making autonomous emergency braking standard and including it with rear park distance control and lane departure warning. The optional Drive Pack includes Traffic Sign Recognition and intelligent speed limiter, which can read posted speed limit signs and keep the vehicle in cruise control at the legal limit if selected. The Drive Pack also includes Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Assist.
In addition to the new standard equipment and revised option packages, the 2017 Range Rover Sport is now offered in 19 different colors and available custom high-gloss and satin paint finishes. Starting price for the 2017 Range Rover Sport V-6 model is $66,645, including $995 destination.
