Los Angeles Car Dealer Locates Ford F-100 Owned by Ed Roth

Big Daddy’s Truck to Be Displayed by Galpin Before Sympathetic Restoration

Aug 23, 2016
Ed “Big Daddy” Roth is a name known far and wide in hot-rod circles thanks to his iconic Rat Fink series of art and his well-known skills as a painter and pinstriper. His 1956 Ford F-100 was an important part of his early business, and that long-lost pickup has been found.
The F-100’s previous owner contacted the Los Angeles dealership company Galpin Motors about the truck, which had been stored in an Oklahoma barn for more than 30 years. Prior to that, it had been used as a mobile billboard for Roth’s pinstriping busuiness; before he made it big as one of the pioneers of the Kustom Kulture movement, Big Daddy made his money custom-pinstriping hot rods. To that end, the F-100 features his signature red-flame pinstripes on the grille, plus a tonneau cover mural and a massive amount of chrome plating, all powered by a Packard V-8
Representatives from Galpin retrieved the F-100 from the Oklahoma barn and brought it back to California. It will be displayed in as-found condition at one of Galpin’s dealerships for some time (likely Galpin Ford).
After its time on the showroom floor ends, Galpin Auto Sports (GAS), the car customizer known for its brief appearance in the MTV series Pimp My Ride, will sympathetically restore the F-100 to its former glory. Lest there be any concern over GAS’ abilities, the team there has also done masterful work in restoring other famous hot rods, including Big Daddy’s own Orbitron and Tweedy Pie, plus a reproduction of Roth’s Mysterion and a restoration of the original Ice Truck by Dan Woods. Bona fide Ed Roth fanatic Dave Shuten will spearhead the restoration efforts.
Expect the restored Ed Roth F-100 to make its debut at the 2017 Grand National Roadster Show. We can’t wait to see it, and we hope Big Daddy would be proud to see one of his earliest creations on the road again.
